- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (often referred to as Always Sunny or simply Sunny) is an American sitcom that premiered on FX on August 4, 2005, and moved to FXX beginning with the ninth season in 2013. It was created by Rob McElhenney, who developed it with Glenn Howerton.It is executive produced and primarily written by McElhenney, Howerton, and Charlie Day, all of whom star alongside.

A Sunny Day in Glasgow began as a collaboration between friends Ben Daniels and Ever Nalens, both of whom had recently returned to Philadelphia after several years in the UK.[2] The band name came from Nalens, who had been living in Glasgow, and Daniels kept it after Nalens left the project.[3] Daniels also asked his twin sisters, Robin and Lauren, to start singing on the songs they had been working on.
In March 2006 the band collected several songs and released them as an EP titled, The Sunniest Day Ever. The EP received attention from College Radio, charting number 1 on NYU's WNYU, as well as music blogs, with Pitchfork Media contributing an early, favorable review.[2][4] Proencryptor safe·pro·security·protect·anti theft 1 7 5.
In 2006, the band signed to Notenuf Records and eventually released their debut LP, Scribble Mural Comic Journal in February 2007.[5] The record received widespread critical acclaim with Pitchfork Media giving the record an '8.0' and 'Recommended' rating, while Drowned in Sound gave the album a '9/10' and called it a 'contender for album of the year.'[6][7] The band compiled outtakes from earlier recording sessions and released them as the Tout New Age EP in the Summer of 2007. 2009 saw the band release their second studio LP, Ashes Grammar. During the recording process, the band was forced to undergo several member changes. The first of these changes came when former bassist Brice Hickey fell when loading equipment into his car, breaking several bones in his legs. This left Ben Daniels to record the bass parts for the album, but also meant that vocalist Robin Daniels had to leave to care for the bedridden Hickey, who is her boyfriend. Lauren Daniels also had to leave the group, due to attending grad school in Colorado, forcing Ben Daniels and guitarist/drummer Josh Meakim to recruit vocalist Annie Fredrickson, also a classically trained cellist and pianist.[8] After the album was recorded, Ryan Newmyer joined as bassist and Meakim's friend Adam Herndon as drummer. In addition, through an advert via their Myspace blog, the band found another vocalist, Jen Goma.[9] The new line-up completed all of the songs from the Ashes sessions and released them as the Nitetime Rainbows EP in March 2010 and 'Autumn, Again' later in October[10]
On June 24, 2014, they released their album Sea When Absent.

For Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), and Frank (Danny DeVito), the new year looks to be quite the record-breaking one. Knowing that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia will be keeping the doors to Paddy's open at FXX and FX on Hulu through season 18 and earning the title of longest-running, live-action sitcom in television history brings with it a sense of comfort and hope. To say that those are two things that all of- including The Gang's real-life counterparts- had a hard time coming by for most of this year would be an understatement. Thankfully, Day took to Instagram to share his New Year's Eve take through music.
Here's a look at Day's two ways of bidding adieu to the painfully unstable year that was 2020. First, a performance that best exemplifies the weirdness of what was. But following that was the double kick to our feels that we weren't really ready for. First, there was his beautiful and touching rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne' that got the jaw trembling' a bit and the eyes watery. But the 'guest star' who makes an appearance at the end? Yeah, it crushed our feels like an empty wine can: Click on it.

Bleeding Cool had the opportunity to ask Howerton that very question during our one-on-one discussion on the return of A.P. Bio for a third season. In the clip below, Howerton explains that the combination of pandemic-related delays and other projects that the cast is committed to (for example, McElhenney's Mythic Quest, Olson's Flipped, as well as other television and film projects- both behind and in front of the camera) has made it difficult to finalize a production ('at this point, it's more of a timing thing'). Though they may still be in the process of 'trying to figure it out,' Howerton expressed how excited and committed they are to a strong 15th run (saying 'maybe even a sixteenth' at the time).
In April, McElhenney revealed that writing was underway, though production timelines were in flux due to production shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. McElhenney was hopeful that they'll be able to 'jump right into something new with 'Sunny' soon. And he also made one thing clear: as long as the fans want it (and FX Networks wants to keep paying for it, which we now know they clearly do) then Paddy's will be keeping its doors open for some time to come. 'How many years do I have on this planet? I'll do it forever. If people keep watching it and we keep having fun, why would we ever stop? It's my dream job. I never understand why people leave shows. I don't. I never understand that,' McElhenney explained. 'The show is what I dreamed of doing my entire life. I don't take it for granted. And if they keep paying me and the audience keeps watching it and I still love it… why would I ever stop?'
